March 11th, 2008

The Board of Education of Independent School District #238 met in regular session on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. in the board room.
Members present: Aberg, Adkins, Hall, Kuhn, Laitinen, Swenson and Supt. Love
Absent: Troy Soiney

Also present: Pam Sande, Carrie Welscher, Chanda Roney, Chelsey Sloan, Sarah Clausen, Barb Kerns, Jeff Nolte and Chris Hansen

The meeting was called to order by Chair Kuhn.

Motion by Hall, second by Laitinen and carried unanimously, to approve agenda.

Motion by Laitinen, second by Aberg and carried unanimously, to approve the February 19, 2008 minutes.

Motion by Swenson, second by Adkins and carried unanimously, to approve payment of monthly bills.

The Senior Class Officers requested the Board to give consideration for the senior class to be allowed to have some days off the last week of school in May.

Motion by Swenson, second by Adkins and carried unanimously, that all students will be dismissed at 11:15 on May 29 with the senior class having their last full day of classes on Tuesday, May 27. This motion is contingent that the senior class will not hold a skip day. The senior class will have classes until 11:15 on May 29 if a skip day occurs.

Supt. Love presented the revised 2007-2008 school budget.

Motion by Swenson, second by Aberg and carried unanimously, to adopt the revised 2007-2008 budget.

Supt. Love and Principal Nolte presented staffing plans for next year.

Motion by Adkins, second by Hall and carried unanimously, to approve going to a seven period class day for the 2008-2009 school year.

Member Swenson introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:

ON UNREQUESTED LEAVE OF ABSENCE

BE IT RESOLVED by the School Board of Independent School District No. 238, as follows:

1. That it is proposed that Marsha Jevne, a teacher of said school district, be placed on unrequested leave of absence without pay or fringe benefits, effective at the end of the 2007-2008 school year on June 30, 2008, pursuant to M.S. 122A.40, subdivision 11.
2. That written notice be sent to said teacher regarding the proposed placement on unrequested leave of absence without pay or fringe benefits as provided by law and said notice shall include a date for hearing if requested and be in substantially the following form:

You are hereby notified at the March meeting of the School Board of Independent School District No. 238 held on March 11,2008, consideration was given to your placement on unrequested leave of absence without pay or fringe benefits as a teacher of Independent School District No. 238, and a resolution was adopted by a majority vote of the Board, proposing your placement on unrequested leave of absence effective at the end of the 2007-2008 school year on June 30, 2008, pursuant to Minnesota Statutes 122A.40, subdivision 11 upon the grounds described in said statute and which are specifically as follows:

Discontinuance of Position, Lack of Pupils and
Financial Limitations

Under the provisions of the law, you are entitled to a hearing before the school board provided that you make a request in writing within fourteen days after receipt of this notice. If no hearing is requested within such period, it shall be deemed acquiescence by you to the school board’s proposed action.

Motion by Aberg, second by Hall and carried unanimously, to approve a contract for Kellie Rhinerson for contracted speech services for our Birth to 3 Year Old Program.

Supt. Love informed the Board on the progress of the 2008-2009 school calendar, capital projects for next year were being prioritized along with next year’s staffing.
Principal Nolte reported he had the rough draft completed of the 2008-2009 class schedule, updated the Board on the testing schedule coming up in April, the new mentoring program that is being established by Ms. Olson and that the school will be hosting the play, “Robin Hood” on March 28.

Motion by Adkins, second by Laitinen and carried unanimously, to adjourn.
