School Board Regular Meeting Minutes

July 18, 2023

 

The Board of Education of Independent School District #238 met on Tuesday, July 18th, 2023 at 6:00 pm in Science Room #50.

 

Members present in person: Dustin Tollefsrud, Traci Livingood, Mark Weidemann, Jason Marquardt, Chris Miller, Cristal Adkins

Present via visible-audible technology: NA

Also present in person: Principal Weidemann, Sup. Gary Kuphal, District Secretary Heather Kleiboer, Jessica Hahn-Miller, Tamitha Peter, Charlene Selbee, Anna Wheat

Members absent:   Diane Wilder

 

The meeting was called to order by Chair Adkins at 6:00 pm.  The Pledge of Allegiance was said.

 

Motion by Jason Marquardt, second by Mark Weidemann and carried unanimously, to approve the revised agenda.

 

Motion by Chris Miller, second by Dustin Tollefsrud and carried unanimously, to approve the June 20, 2023 minutes.

  •  Huge Thank you to the Area Council of Churches for the extremely generous donation of school supplies. 
  • Job Posting update: Still need a SPED para, Full time Custodian and JH BKB coach. 
  • Seeking information for the parent of a wrestler and what our agreement entails with Fillmore-Central School. Working on lining up transportation. 
 
  1. Superintendent - 
  •  Spoke about the Continuation of the Bond project and construction in the building. 
    • Duct work in the library and AC in the Bandroom, Computer lab
  • Switch upgrade (gear) went well at the end of June.

B. Motion by Dustin Tollefsrud, seconded by Traci Livingood and carried unanimously, to approve the Resolution Adopting ISD #238 FY 2025 Long Term Facilities Maintenance Ten-Year Plan.

C. First Reading of the 2023-2024 Student/Parent Handbook-No Action required

D. Motion by Jason Marquardt, seconded by Traci Livingood and carried unanimously, to approve the 2023-2024 Extra Curricular Handbook. 

E. Motion by Dustin Tollefsrud, seconded by Traci Livingood and carried unanimously, to approve the 2023-2024 SAC Handbook. 

F. Motion by Chris Miller, seconded by Jason Marquardt and carried unanimously, to approve the 2023-2024 Fall Coaches and Year-long Advisors.

G. Motion by Chris Miller, seconded by Traci Livingood and carried unanimously, to approve the 2023-2024 Fundraising list.

H. Hiawatha Valley Education District Joint Powers Agreement--this is delayed a month. The Board will be voting in August. 

I. Hiawatha Valley Education District Purchase of the Winona Mall--this is no longer necessary, as the HVED Board will vote on the purchase.

J. Policy 419-Tobacco-Free Environment, 1st Reading-No Action. Members prefer to review all of these new readings and report back at the next meeting. 

K. Policy 514: Bullying Prohibition, 1st reading-No Action

L. Policy 516.5 Overdose Medication, 1st reading-No Action

M. Policy 534 School Meals Policy, 1st Reading-No Action
