School Board Regular Meeting Minutes

May 16, 2023

 

The Board of Education of Independent School District #238 met on Tuesday, May 16th, 2023 at 6:00 pm in Science Room #50.

 

Members present in person: Adkins, Weidemann, Tollefsrud, Wilder, Miller, Livingood, Maruquardt, Superintendent Kuphal and Student Representative Matthew McClimon

Also present in person: Principal Weidemann, District Secretary Heather Kleiboer, Ben Bisbach with Fillmore County Journal, Steve Sallee with Southeast Service Cooperative, Laura Vatland, Sarah Holdmeyer, Laura Horihan

Members absent: Student Representative Anna Wheat   

 

The meeting was called to order by Chair Adkins at 6:00 pm.  The Pledge of Allegiance was said.

 

Motion by Chris Miller, second by Mark Wiedemann and carried unanimously, to approve the revised agenda.

 

Motion by Diane Wilder, second by Mark Weidemann and carried unanimously, to approve the April 18, 2023 minutes.

  •  Reminder that Preliminary Budget will be presented at the June meeting.
  •  Issue regarding Decorah families and the open enrollment agreement, getting a letter ready and setting up a meeting with those families soon to discuss options
  •  New Custodian was hired. He is registered for Boiler License training this week
  •  Parent request for considering coop with Caledonia for Soccer was discussed. No agreement for the coop in 23-24. A survey should be conducted to see if there is enough interest to enter this agreement in the future.

B.   Motion by Jason Marquardt, second by Traci Livingood and carried unanimously, to approve Cooperative Sports Agreement.

C.   Motion by Mark Weidmann, second by Traci Livingood (Wilder abstained) and carried unanimously, to approve Increase Dean of Students position.

D.  Motion by Chris Miller, second by Dustin Tollefsrud and carried unanimously, to approve .2 FTE Teacher Increase to accommodate the increased Dean of Students position.

  1. Motion by Chris Miller, second by Jason Marquardt and carried unanimously, to approve Agreement to reimburse for Student Membership for ALC Learning with HVED. 
  2. Motion by Diane Wilder, second by Dustin Tollefsrud and carried unanimously, to approve Capital Outlay and LTFM Recommendations.
  3. Motion by Jason Marquardt, second by Traci Livingood (Wilder abstained) and carried unanimously, to approve Teacher’s Contract Agreement. 
  4. Motion by Diane Wilder, second by Dustin Tollefsrud and carried unanimously, to approve Calendar Revisions for 2023-2024.
  5. E-Learning days--NO VOTE, discussion on whether or not to research this option for future calendar year. Discussion tabled. 
  6. Football Camp-No action needed. Just letting the board know about the planned upcoming Varsity Football camp held at Dakota State Univ. 
  7. Motion by Chris Miller, seconded by Mark Weidmann and carried unanimously, to approve the Summer SAC proposal.
