School Board Regular Meeting Minutes

December 20, 2022

 

The Board of Education of Independent School District #238 met on Tuesday, December 20th, 2022 at 6:01 pm in Science Room #50.

 

Members present in person: Adkins, Weidemann, Tollefsrud, Wilder, Miller, Marquardt, Superintendent Kuphal, Student Representative Anna Wheat

Present via visible-audible technology: Charlene Selbee with Fillmore County Journal

Also present in person: Principal Weidemann, District Secretary Lisa Halverson, Aimee Lake, Tyler Augedahl

Member absent:  Livingood, Student Representative Matthew McClimon

 

The meeting was called to order by Chair Adkins at 6:01 pm.  The Pledge of Allegiance was said.

 

Motion by Miller, second by Wilder and carried unanimously, to approve the agenda.

 

Aimee Lake gave a presentation on the 2023 taxes, budget, and levy proposing the 2023 school tax levy of $1,056,666.08.   

 

No quorum present for the November 30, 2022 meeting, therefore this meeting was not considered a board meeting.  No action needed.  

Motion by Miller, second by Marquardt and carried unanimously, to approve the November 15, 2022 minutes, November 16, 2022 minutes, and December 14, 2022 minutes.

 

Consent Agenda:  Motion by Wilder, second by Weidemann and carried unanimously, to approve the following, with many thanks for all the donations:

  1. PreK-12 Principal - 
  • Thank you to Mr. Farnen and Mrs. Morken and all band/choir students for all their hard work.  Great job at their concerts!
  • This year’s Excel winners:  Katrinda Whalen & Hayden Erickson.  This year’s AAA winners:  Sophia Morken & Jordan Larson - Congratulations!  These students will be recognized at a basketball game in January.  
  • Book fair was a success.  
  • M-C Scholar Club was held this afternoon recognizing all students who maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher with no grade below C- for the previous school year.  Congratulations to all those students for their hard work.  Thank you to Jessica Hahn.-Miller and Lana Hollar for putting this together, and thank you to Molly Sikkink for speaking.  
 
  1. Superintendent - 
  • The board negotiators have met and are working on the bussing contract.  
 

Items for Action and/or Discussion

  1. Motion by Wilder, second by Weidemann and carried unanimously, to approve the proposed $1,056,666.08 levy.  
  2. Motion by Weidemann, second by Wilder and carried unanimously, to approve the teacher seniority list.  
  3. Required by the Federal Government to review every six months until June 2023.  Household contact tracing was removed from the original plan.  Motion by Marquardt, second by Wilder and carried unanimously, to approve the revised Safe Learning Plan.  
  4. Discussion was held on wording for the Strategic Plan- the board agreed to leave as is.  Motion by Marquardt, second by Wilder and carried unanimously, to approve the Strategic Plan.  Gary will work with others on completing these action plans.      
  5. Motion by Weidemann, second by Wilder and carried unanimously, to approve the resolution establishing combined polling places.
