School Board Special Meeting Minutes

August 13, 2020

The Board of Education of Independent School District #238 met on Monday, August 13, 2020 at 6:00 pm in the Media Center.

 

Members present in person: Adkins, Miller, Wilder, Livingood, Superintendent Kuphal;  

Other board members present via visual and audible technology: Marquardt (left call at 6:13 for an emergency and returned shortly after), Weidemann, and Tollefsrud.   

Also present in person:  Michelle Weidemann, Lonnie Morken, Lisa Halverson; 

Others present via visible-audible technology: Greg Turner, Stephanie Morken, Stacey Wilson, Caryn Halverson, Heather Kleiboer, Melissa Miller

 

  1. The meeting was called to order by Chair Adkins at 6:02 pm.

 
  1. The Pledge of Allegiance was said.

 
  1. Planning for school this Fall:

A. 2020-21 Sports

- Lonnie Morken, Athletics Director, gave the following updates:

  • Football and Volleyball have been moved to the Winter/Spring - tentatively March 15-May 15.   

  • Other Fall sports: Cross Country, Soccer, Tennis, Swimming/Diving were left in the Fall

  • Football and Volleyball will have the option to hold 12 Fall practices from September 16-October 3.

  • The traditional Spring sports will then get an option to hold 12 practices from October 5-October 24.

  • We will make sure all the coaches are current with their MSHSL required classes.

  • We will make sure all athletes have current physicals before they practice.  

  • No competition will be allowed during your practice window.  

B. Committee Recommendation 

  • A committee met last week and put together a plan to start school this Fall.  This plan was brought to the board for approval tonight.  After a long discussion, the board was unable to make a decision on how to start school this year.  Motion by Marquardt, second by Adkins and carried unanimously to table this topic and move to Tuesday’s regular school board meeting.  Roll call was taken and motion was passed 7-0.

 

XI. Adjournment:  Motion by Marquardt, second by Miller and carried unanimously to adjourn at 8:56 pm.  Roll call was taken and motion was passed 7-0.
